On Wednesday, the final two gates at the new Terminal B opened, and a section of the taxiway was completed.

This means the facility is almost done after six years of construction, over 17 million hours of work, and 40,000 tons of steel used. The terminal will be fully complete by 2023.

Also under construction at LaGuardia is the new Terminal C, which houses Delta Air Lines’ flights. The airline is funding the $4 billion project.

While Terminal B is nearly complete, Terminal C still has at least a year’s worth of work to do. Specifically, Delta is still working on gates 80-89 and 61-69, which are scheduled to open in 2024.

I toured Delta’s brand new $4 billion Terminal C at New York’s LaGuardia Airport and now I can’t wait to fly out of it as a passenger

However, gates 70-79 opened on June 4, and gates 90-98 opened in 2019, so passengers are able to experience the new Terminal C.

For a year and a half, American customers heading to the western concourse checked in at the headhouse but then had to walk to their gate via the 60-year-old Central Terminal Building, which was known for its low ceilings and dated infrastructure.

The trek was long and inconvenient for travelers, but the new 482-foot pedestrian bridge will more easily connect travelers to the gates in the western concourse.

The terminal’s eastern skybridge opened in June 2020. In total, the walkways connect check-in and baggage claim to 35 new gates.

Aircraft will be able to taxi underneath both bridges, alleviating the congestion LaGuardia’s old Terminal B was infamously known for. Southwest was the first to use the new taxiway in May 2021.

During my walkthrough of Terminal B, I found the check-in area spacious and modern. There were plenty of kiosks at each airline counter.

After a quick check-in, I headed to security, which was easy to find because of the giant, illuminated sign.

The checkpoint was split into two sections — one with lines for standard TSA and priority, and a second for TSA PreCheck and B-Fast, which is an expedited line that costs travelers $15.

Also in the food court is an informative departures board that told passengers if they should head to their gate or sit and relax.

The updated gate areas in both concourses were extremely spacious with 55-foot ceilings and plenty of seating. The new facility is a relief for travelers who had to fight for space in the old terminal.

Passengers traveling through may notice the unique lighting fixtures, artwork, and concessions in the terminal, which are intended to replicate a hotel, rather than an airport.

The carpeted floors also help keep the noise level down, making the experience more peaceful for travelers.

Several restaurants and shops are located throughout the concourse, like Bar Veloce, Sweetleaf Coffee, Gotham News, and The Scoop, which will use Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology that allows shoppers to check out via cameras rather than cashiers.

Terminal C also proved to be impressive. Delta has invested thousands of work hours over five years, resulting in a nice, modern new facility.

The terminal opened on June 4 and is the project’s “biggest milestone” because it marks the completion of 80% of the facility, Ryan Marzullo, Delta’s managing director of design and construction, told media at the opening.

According to Marzullo, the space was designed with the New Yorker in mind, meaning Delta focused on speed and efficiency.

Specifically, he said the roadway outside the terminal has been split into two lanes to increase curb space and decrease traffic…

…while the check-in area has been designed as a “transient space” without much decor because LaGuardia is a main business hub for Delta, and those passengers do not typically check luggage.

While the space was designed to be less extravagant, there are marble walls and several beautiful murals created by local artists throughout the facility.

To get to security, travelers will take the escalator up to the third level. Here, there is a giant digital art installation created by ESI Design, an NBBJ Studio.

According to a Delta spokesperson, the scene on the screen, which features things like waterfalls and mountains, changes when a delta flight takes off. The new image will be the destination of that flight.

Snaking security lines filled the large space during my recent trip. Several illuminated signs designate where each passenger should go, like Clear, TSA PreCheck, disabled, and the regular line.

Fortunately, I have TSA PreCheck so I was through in about five minutes. According to Delta, there are 11 lanes open, but the checkpoint has 16 total available for use.

Once you exit security, passengers will turn either left or right. Left is for gates 61-79…

…and right is for gates 80-98. Passengers will walk anywhere from five to 12 minutes from the security checkpoint to their gate.

A total of 37 gates will be open when the terminal is complete, and Terminal C and D will be consolidated into one huge 1.3-million-square-foot facility.

There are several places for travelers to eat on both sides of the terminal.

On the side with gates 60-70, passengers will find both quick-service and sit-down restaurants, like Bubby’s, CIBO Express, and Essex Burger…

…as well as Starbucks. According to Mazullo, there are four Starbucks throughout the new Terminal C, but no Dunkin’ Donuts, which is unfortunate for New Englanders.

I enjoyed a burger and fries from Bubby’s. While the meal was tasty, it was expensive at $21.99, so I’ll probably just rely on snacks next time.

At the bottom of the escalator on the righthand side of the terminal, passengers will either head straight for gates 90-98 or left for gates 80-89.

The space is clearly not as nice as the updated terminal, but still has some concessions, like quick-service market Bisoux.

Touring the 90s gates, it was easy to see the upgrades to the seats and space. There was more than enough room for everyone in the boarding area…

Meanwhile, the bathrooms were modern and had mosaic artwork representing New York City — complimenting the art in the departures hall restrooms.

When exiting the terminal, passengers will find five new carousels at bag claim that will disperse luggage within 20 minutes of arrival, according to the airline.

Voici Gabe Neron : le nouveau champion national canadien de descente masculine


Gabe Neron était le dernier homme sur la montagne aux championnats nationaux canadiens de descente de dimanche. En tant que qualifié le plus rapide, il a eu la pression de se présenter en dernier sur le parcours Kicking Horse. Trois minutes et demie après avoir franchi les portes de départ, Neron a franchi la ligne avec le meilleur temps de la journée. Alors que la poussière retombait, Neron a été envahi par un groupe d’amis et de coéquipiers. Le coureur de Dunbar Cycles avait battu tous les coureurs de l’équipe d’usine, remportant son premier titre élite en tant que nouveau champion national canadien de descente masculine.

Pour ceux qui sont en dehors de la scène, Neron pourrait être un peu un inconnu. Mais quiconque suit de près la descente au Canada aura remarqué que le jeune homme de 22 ans, qui travaille comme mécanicien chez Squamish’s Corsa Cycles entre les courses, gravit les échelons depuis quelques années maintenant. Le couronnement de dimanche est une confirmation de sa place parmi les puissances canadiennes en descente.

J’ai rattrapé Neron au téléphone pour parler de son premier titre élite, de la compétition et de la coopération au plus haut niveau, de la victoire des nationaux à l’arrière d’une camionnette et de l’endroit où trouver la meilleure poutine en Colombie-Britannique (indice : ce n’est pas facile) .

VTT canadien: Pouvez-vous vous présenter ?

Gabe Neron : J’ai actuellement 22 ans. Je viens du Lac Saint-Jean, au Québec. à l’origine, mais je vis à Squamish depuis trois ans maintenant.

Qu’est-ce qui a causé ce déménagement?

Cyclisme. Faire du vélo strictement.

Je suppose que le déménagement de Québec à Squamish, il y avait aussi du ski. Avant de déménager à Squamish, j’ai passé cinq ans à Sun Peaks. C’est là que m’est venu l’amour du VTT. J’ai pensé, d’accord, la prochaine étape est Squamish.

Comment s’est passée ta course aux nationaux ? Comment s’est passé le stage cette année ?

Le parcours est probablement le parcours le plus long que nous ayons ici à la série canadienne. C’était fatiguant, c’était physique. Il y a beaucoup de pompage, beaucoup de sprints. Avec la sécheresse du sentier, il y a eu de gros trous et des compressions. Donc dans l’ensemble, c’était une course très fatigante.

En ce qui concerne mon run gagnant… c’était lâche ! J’étais sur le bord tout le chemin.

Comment était-ce de franchir la ligne d’arrivée sous les acclamations de vos amis et fans ?

Honnêtement, je ne savais pas ce qui m’avait frappé. Je n’ai pas entendu le klaxon du hot-seat, alors j’ai pensé « Oh, ça n’a pas marché », et les gens venaient juste m’encourager. Mais ensuite, mon ami Garrett m’a dit à l’oreille: “Tu l’as fait!” Après ça, ça s’est en quelque sorte installé, il y avait de plus en plus de gens qui m’étreignaient, c’était écrasant. Il a fallu un peu de temps – presque une journée complète – pour que cela s’installe pour de vrai.

Comment ça va deux jours plus tard ?

Ça fait du bien! C’est encore difficile à croire. C’était mon objectif de la saison et je suis content de l’avoir atteint.

Vous avez eu toute une bataille avec Jackson Frew toute la semaine, terminant deuxième derrière lui à deux reprises. Comment avez-vous renversé la vapeur pour Kicking Horse ?

Je ne connaissais pas vraiment Jackson avant cette semaine, mais au cours de la semaine, nous avons roulé ensemble et parlé de lignes ensemble et sommes devenus amis. Alors on s’est entraidée toute la semaine, ça a été bien.

En fait, il m’a envoyé un message avant les championnats nationaux disant « roulons ensemble et je t’aiderai pour le week-end. Allons vous chercher cette manche.

Quels sont vos plans pour le reste de la saison ?

En ce moment, je prends une semaine de vacances. Je m’envole pour le Mont-Sainte-Anne la semaine prochaine pour la Coupe du monde. Et maintenant, puisque j’ai gagné des championnats nationaux, je ferai très probablement partie de l’équipe canadienne qui vole vers les championnats du monde. Donc je vais devoir trouver de l’argent d’une manière ou d’une autre et aller aux championnats du monde !

Vous avez fait quelques Coupes du monde au début de cette année et quelques-unes à la fin de l’année dernière également. Est-ce difficile d’aller là-bas et de faire ces courses en tant que corsaire ?

C’est dur. L’année dernière, heureusement, j’avais des amis qui m’accompagnaient et un physio avec moi. Cela a beaucoup aidé.

Cette année au printemps j’y étais toute seule et ça a été… un gros coup de pied au visage. J’ai vraiment appris ce que c’était que d’être un corsaire à part entière. Ce n’est pas facile, mais je suppose que nous devons tous passer par là. Espérons que quelque chose sortira de l’effort à un moment donné.

L’année dernière, vous voyagiez avec Garrett MacIntosh. Vous deux vous êtes retrouvés avec le surnom “Shake’n’Bake” (Corsa même fait des bouteilles de course ltd) Comment ça s’est passé ?

En fait, je ne sais pas comment cela s’est passé. Je pense que c’était Salon de l’éventreurBret Carels vient de commencer à nous appeler Shake’n’Bake parce que nous avons une bonne relation. Je veux dire, je ne serais pas là si Garrett n’était pas là pour moi. Il m’a en quelque sorte attiré dans l’équipe Dunbar et nous roulons ensemble depuis. On roule ensemble, on fait la fête ensemble, on traîne tout le temps.

Vous avez remporté des championnats nationaux dans un incroyable casque sur le thème de la poutine. D’où vous est venue l’idée et comment l’avez-vous réalisée ?

Eh bien, je suis canadien-français et je voulais représenter cela d’une certaine manière. Évidemment, la poutine est très franco-canadienne. Aussi, mes amis se moquent de moi parce que je dis toujours que la poutine en Colombie-Britannique craint. Alors je me suis dit : “Tu sais quoi, je vais mettre une poutine sur mon casque !”

J’ai vu ce gars du nom de Chris King à Squamish démarrer une entreprise de peinture de cadres et de casques et je lui ai envoyé un message disant que j’avais une idée folle, qu’en pensait-il. Il était dedans alors je lui ai envoyé le casque. Je l’ai récupéré de lui juste avant d’aller en Europe et ça a l’air malade, j’adore ça.

Alors, où est la meilleure poutine en Colombie-Britannique ?

Oh, la meilleure poutine que j’ai eue en Colombie-Britannique était à Valemount, je veux dire il y a cinq ans. Je suis allé à Valemount pour un voyage à vélo et il y avait ce petit food truck appartenant à un Canadien français et, oui, c’était là. [Ed. Ce n’est pas là que je m’attendais ! Bon, dernière question. Qu’est-ce que – ou qui – sont Fourgonnettes et comment en êtes-vous devenu membre ?

Je suppose que je suis devenu membre de Van Pits grâce à Garrett, il était à l’origine l’un des Van Pitters. C’était juste un groupe de mecs qui avaient des vans et allaient à toutes les courses et campaient toujours ensemble dans leurs vans. J’ai finalement acheté une camionnette moi-même. Je voyage dedans en ce moment avec ce groupe d’amis. Nous sommes super serrés. nous voyageons ensemble, nous traînons – pas seulement aux courses. Nous organisons habituellement une réunion « Shredsgiving », où 20 d’entre nous se réunissent à la maison de Brandon Douglas à Williams Lake. C’est juste un bon groupe d’amis, vraiment.

Étiez-vous dans le van quand vous avez gagné ce week-end ?

Oh oui, j’ai voyagé dans le van toute la semaine !

Andrew Gentile: la línea de pago de Google es donde están los dulces

La inteligencia artificial puede ser extremadamente valiosa cuando se aplica al tipo apropiado de problemas. AI puede escanear a través de los registros médicos de 10 millones de pacientes con cáncer, encontrando tendencias que un humano no podría. Puede encontrar marcadores genéticos que indiquen las posibilidades de que un paciente desarrolle cáncer, dándole al paciente la oportunidad de tratarlo antes de que la afección se vuelva sintomática.

Eso es un tremendo beneficio para la medicina, como poder ver el futuro. La razón por la que AI puede hacer esto de manera tan efectiva es que tiene una montaña de información en forma de años de registros médicos por paciente.

Por supuesto, la IA también se usa para tareas menos admirables, como la publicidad dirigida. Google tiene una enorme cantidad de información sobre mí. Estoy seguro de que sabe muchas cosas sobre mí que yo ni siquiera sé. Escanea continuamente mis correos electrónicos y mis textos. Supervisa mi actividad web e incluso escucha mis conversaciones.

Y de este conjunto de datos, recoge palabras clave que luego se convierten en entradas para el programa de IA asignado para monitorearme. El problema que la IA de Google está tratando de resolver es cómo seleccionar artículos o videos que me llamen la atención.

Recibo muchos artículos de trivia con títulos como “Solo el 7% de las personas pueden responder este cuestionario de televisión de los años 70” o “Las ciudades más infelices de todos los estados”.

En cierto sentido, mi fuente de noticias se parece a la línea de pago en la tienda de comestibles, atestada de artículos en su mayoría inútiles, colocados allí para tentar mi moderación. Aunque podría tomar una barra de chocolate mientras espero para pagar, lo hago por aburrimiento o por impulso. No es que realmente quisiera los dulces. De hecho, si los dulces se vendieran solo en el pasillo de dulces, es posible que nunca compre dulces.

Del mismo modo, leo artículos en mi suministro de noticias porque están ahí, y están ahí porque los leo. Esta retroalimentación circular es la profecía autocumplida de Google. Por encima de todo, la comodidad importa.

Podría argumentar que la IA de Google no funciona porque no sabe lo que realmente quiero leer. Google confunde conveniencia y curiosidad con interés genuino. El único comentario que recibe Google es si abro o no el artículo. Puede haber otras pistas, como cuánto tiempo veo el artículo y si lo abro más de una vez. De lo contrario, Google no tiene idea de por qué abrí el artículo.

Pero la IA de Google no ha sido programada para averiguar cuáles son mis preferencias literarias. Ha sido programado para maximizar mi valor como producto de Google. Mi atención es lo que Google está vendiendo, y cuanto más Google pueda captar mi atención, más valioso soy como producto. Google solo tiene que captar, pero no mantener, mi atención. Distraerme es más fácil y más rentable que comprenderme.

Google gana dinero al obstaculizar mi capacidad de ver el mundo en línea. Lamentablemente, este es un modelo de negocio en el que todos ganan. Cuantas más curiosidades tenga que revisar, más probable es que un título me llame la atención y haga clic en él. Y por supuesto, lo hago. Todos lo hacen.

La IA no solo se adapta a mí; Me adapto a eso. Con el tiempo, probablemente me pareceré más a lo que Google cree que soy. Quizás ya lo tengo. Esta es la línea de pago de Google, y ahí es donde están los dulces.
